Cosmetic Dentistry |
Cosmetic dentistry encompasses all aspects of dentistry
that make you more beautiful. Whitening your
smile, realigning crooked front teeth, a "gum
lift" to recontour your gums, replacing old
discoloured restorations, or replacing missing
teeth. It is recommended that a special consultation be organized to
clarify your desires relating to any cosmetic treatment sought. This
will enable your dentist to discuss the treatment options available
and allow you to decide on the best treatment for you. A variety of
"before and after" shots are available in the photo gallery to show
you examples of our many smiling patients.

Crown & Bridge |
A crown is fitted over the surface of a prepared tooth in order to strengthen it. Crowns can be fixed onto “live” teeth or after a tooth has undergone root canal treatment. Bridges are simply a series of crowns fixed together in order to replace missing teeth in a gap.

 |
 |
Dentures - Partial / Full |
A denture is a removable prosthesis used to replace missing teeth. It sits on the mucosa (full dentures) or teeth/mucosa for partial dentures. It can be made from acrylic or metal for better fit and function. A denture must be cleaned regularly in order to maintain good oral health.

 |
Extraction |
Extracting a tooth or teeth involves removing it from a socket in the jawbone. This can be done under local anaesthetic at a surgery or under general anaesthetic at a hospital. More difficult extractions involve minor surgical procedures to help the tooth out. A period of healing is required after an extraction to enable the bone and mucosa to heal over the socket.

 |
Fillings |
A variety if white filling materials are used in order to restore decayed, worn
or broken teeth. The most appropriate shade and selection of restorative material
is bonded to the prepared tooth surface, and the restoration carved and polished
into the desired shape. A filling should not be subject to biting forces for
at least 24 hours after setting.

 |
Full Mouth
Reconstruction |
A term used to describe treatment which involves several branches of dentistry and aims at replacing what has been lost. Missing teeth are replaced and missing tooth structure is reconstructed. Careful treatment planning is required is order to create the most stable long-term solution.

 |
 |
GA - General Anaesthesia |
More invasive or complex surgical procedures often require general anaesthesia
or intravenous sedation. General anaesthesia is a state of unconsciousness that
is controlled by an anaesthetist. Most procedures are usually fairly short,
so most patients go home a few hours after the procedure.

 |
Grinding Exercises |
The Temporomandibular joint (or jaw joint) is one of the most specialized joints in the body. If it is clicking or popping, painful, dislocating or just not performing smoothly it may need exercise, rest, manipulation or strengthening depending on the problem. Each case is specific.

Headaches |
Headaches should not be a normal part of life. A pain is your body's way of telling you that something is wrong. Headaches come in all sorts of severity and...

 |
Implant |
A dental implant is an artificial replacement for a lost tooth root. An implant can be employed to support
a single crown, if a single tooth is lost
a bridge, if a series of teeth are lost in a gap or
a partial or full prosthesis, depending on the number of lost teeth, implants can be your “third set of teeth”.

 |
 |
Inlay / Onlay |
Tooth coloured reinforced glass or resin provides a strong and durable restoration in those teeth, which may appreciate the extra support. Unlike direct fillings inlay/onlays are fabricated in a laboratory and bonded in one week after preparation and impression taking.
 |
 |
 |
Minor Orthodontics |
Orthodontics literally means “straight teeth” and this branch of dentistry treats problems in the alignment of teeth and the jaws. Most orthodontic concerns will require referral to a specialist orthodontist for a consultation because only minor orthodontic procedures are carried out at dental surgeries.

 |
 |
Mouthguards |
Children and Adults are advised to wear mouthguards during training and playing all contact sports. These include football, basketball, soccer, hockey, boxing, martial arts etc. Mouthguards are custom fitted and come in a variety of colors.

 |
OHI - Oral Hygiene Instruction |
Oral Hygiene instruction involves educating our patients on the vast techniques
available to carry out home cleaning procedures. This includes brushing between
teeth, under and around implants and bridges, mouth rinsing and denture hygiene.
All our staff ate trained in providing customized routines for each patient.

 |
Periodontal Treatment |
Gum disease destroys the periodontal ligament, which connects a tooth to its
supporting bone. Periodontal treatment aims at preventing or at least slowing
this destruction so as to keep the tooth for as long as possible. For most people
the best method of treating periodontal disease is by prevention regularly having
a general scale and clean.
|
 |
 |
RCT - Root Canal Therapy |
A tooth that has undergone Root canal treatment is
no longer alive. The treated tooth can remain in the mouth as long
as the inside if the tooth (or root canal) is cleaned, sterile and
sealed. Molars generally have multiple canals, whilst incisors (front
teeth) can have just one. Treated teeth often need to be re-enforced
with a crown to prevent fracture following treatment.

 |
 |
Sand
Blasting |
Intra-oral sandblasting or air abrasion involves firing a pressurised flow of “sand” at a decayed lesion on a tooth. The weakest part of the tooth is removed first thus conserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible. Minimal intervention is the philosophy of the new millennium.

 |
 |
Scale & Clean |
A cleaning procedure recommended for most people at six monthly intervals. Ultrasonic
scaling dislodges plaque and calculus and stain making it a less favorable environment
for bacteria that lead to gum disease. Your mouth will feel, taste and smell
cleaner and fresher. Studies show that people with healthy gums are less likely
to suffer from heart attack and stroke!

 |
Sleep Apnoea Device |
This mandibular positioning device opens the airways of those sufferers of sleep
apnoea. A lack of oxygen supply to the brain during sleep due to obstruction
of the posterior airways can affect all aspects of life. A diagnosis from your
medical doctor is required prior to treatment.
 |
 |
 |
Splints
- Grinding |
Many people grind or clench their teeth and often this happens during nighttime sleep. Wearing a splint will help prevent this habit from wearing away teeth, breaking cusps or old fillings, causing sensitive teeth, muscle tension leading to headaches or jaw stiffness and pain. Splint designs are now more effective and comfortable then ever.

 |
Surgical Extraction |
A surgical extraction is required when a tooth is badly
broken and can thus not be extracted in a straight
forward manner. Impacted teeth (see wisdom teeth) may also require
surgical extraction.
|
 |
 |
Veneers |
Veneers are a thin laminate of porcelin bonded onto
the front surfaces of teeth.Veneers can provide
us all with the perfect smile. Discoloured, fractured, crooked, un-slightly
or uneven teeth can all be enhanced by veneers. See the photo gallery
for some great smiles.

 |
Whitening |
Whitening your teeth will make your smile appear brighter and more youthful. It involves a simple, painless process which begins with impression taking of your mouth to enable us to construct custom fitted trays which hold the whitening next to your tooth's surfaces. Just a few days later we are ready to begin.
|
 |
 |
Wisdom Teeth |
Wisdom teeth or third molars often require extraction because they do not fit
into the available space at the back of the mouth. This can be done under local
anaesthesia at the dental surgery or under general anaesthesia in hospital.
