FAQs

If you have more questions check-out our frequently asked questions

At Carnegie Dental Group we work closely with patients to help them maintain their natural teeth for as long as possible.

What is sand blasting?

Sand blasting, or air abrasion, is a less invasive form of drilling away decay. Sand blasting sends particles at your tooth, removing decay and retaining as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

Why do my gums bleed when I brush them?

If this is happening you need to visit the dentist. Bleeding gums when you brush and floss is usually a sign of gum disease, and if not treated it can lead to periodontal disease, which is the advanced form of gum disease and the leading cause of tooth loss in adults.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a braces-free orthodontic treatment that helps straighten your teeth discreetly and effectively. Being removable means you can continue to eat all your favourite foods without the discomfort of braces. What it does mean is you need to brush your teeth after every meal.

Isn’t root canal therapy painful?

No. With advances in dentistry, root canal therapy can be no more painful than a filling. And the advantage of root canal therapy is it can save your tooth from needing to be extracted—the benefit of which is a natural tooth is better for your oral health than no tooth.

Dental implant or denture?

After a natural tooth the dental implant treatment is the best. However, for some patients dental implants aren’t an option. This can happen for reasons such as lack of jawbone density or poor oral health.

The reason a dental implant treatment is the next best thing to a natural tooth is because it replaces both the tooth root and the dental crown. A denture only replaces the crowns of missing teeth.

What is sleep dentistry?

Sleep dentistry is the use of IV conscious sedation to help patients receive the treatment they need. It’s called sleep dentistry because when the sedation starts to take effect you’ll either remember very little or nothing of what happens until the sedative wears off. While you’ll still be able to understand and respond to the dentist time will move really quickly.

What teeth whitening options do you offer?

At Carnegie Dental Group we offer in-office and take home whitening. Which of these treatments is better for you will depend on your smile and your health.
